medialab Server — guide

Installation

  • In a container: Docker, Compose, Unraid, Portainer or Kubernetes, on any 64-bit x86 or ARM machine, Ubuntu included. Image ghcr.io/cristiancasapu/medialab-server, tags 12.2-ml.N, 12.2 and latest.
  • With apt on Debian 12 (bookworm, amd64 or arm64): the packages replace jellyfin-server and jellyfin-web, and the server runs as the usual jellyfin service.

Before switching an existing Jellyfin server, make a backup of its settings and data: at the first start the database is upgraded to the 12.2 format, which an older Jellyfin cannot open again.

Updates

  • Container: pull the new image tag (12.2-ml.N) and recreate the container; the settings in /config stay.
  • apt: sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade, or from the web interface with the Self-Update by MediaLab plugin.

Every version is listed in the changelog.

Plugins

Our Jellyfin plugins install from the public catalog, which medialab Server adds by itself, or from your private plugin repository, as on official Jellyfin. On medialab Server they show Verified – medialab in the plugin pages and come first among Live TV tuners, guide sources and subtitle providers; you can change that order at any time.

MediaLab TV (built in, 12.2-ml.8 and newer)

  1. On the TV, open https://<server>:8096/web/tv/, or the MediaLab TV entry in the users' menu.
  2. Settings: users' menu → MediaLab TV – admin (name, logo, colors, language, access path, Turnstile).
  3. On official Jellyfin install the jf-tvapp plugin; on medialab Server it is already there and the plugin is not used (an installed one is ignored, its settings taken over).

Source code

medialab Server is free software (GPL-2.0). The source of every version is tagged in medialab-server and medialab-server-web (v12.2-ml.N); the container build files are in medialab-server-docker.

Free and open source: no license key, trial or payment. Install it in a container or from the apt repository.
