MediaLab for Plex — installation and use

Install the companion service next to Plex Media Server, sign in with the Plex account that owns the server, then enter the license key once.

The service runs next to Plex Media Server and has its own web interface on port 8124. On first start it prints a setup code in its log: open http://<server>:8124, enter the code and sign in with the Plex account that owns the server ("Sign in with Plex").

Linux (systemd)

sudo ./install.sh [--plex-url http://127.0.0.1:32400] [--port 8124]
# setup code:
journalctl -u medialab-for-plex | grep 'setup code'

Windows (service)

Run PowerShell as administrator:

.\install-service.ps1 [-PlexUrl ...] [-Port 8124]
# setup code:
# %ProgramData%\MediaLab for Plex\logs\medialab-*.log

Docker

docker load -i medialab-for-plex-<version>-docker-amd64.tar.gz # or -arm64
docker compose up -d # docker-compose.yml from medialab.works
# setup code:
docker compose logs medialab | grep 'setup code'

License

Open the "License" page in the interface and enter your medialab.works key once. The service checks the license, updates itself and its modules, and verifies the ECDSA signature of every package before applying it.
