Rosub — Romanian subtitles for Jellyfin

Automatically downloads from subs.ro the Romanian subtitle that exactly matches the release of each movie and episode in your Jellyfin library.

Rosub by medialab finds Romanian subtitles for your Jellyfin library on subs.ro and picks, from the archives it downloads, the file made for your release, so the timing is right.

What it does

  • On arrival: a few minutes after Jellyfin identifies a new movie or episode, Rosub searches subs.ro (by IMDb/TMDb id) and saves the subtitle next to the video as Name.ro.srt.
  • Daily (scheduled task at 04:00): retries everything without a Romanian subtitle, newest first; items not found yet are retried after a few days, because subtitles often appear days after a release.
  • Release matching: the file name is split into title, year, season/episode, resolution, source (WEB-DL, BluRay, HDTV), service, codec and release group, and compared with each subtitle; strict mode accepts only subtitles made for the same release, group or streaming source.
  • Sync check: when the video has an embedded subtitle, the candidate's timing is compared with it; a constant offset is corrected, an out-of-sync subtitle is rejected.
  • Correct Romanian: UTF-8, with ș and ț (comma below) instead of the old cedilla forms.
  • OpenSubtitles.com as a fallback (optional, your own API key) when subs.ro has nothing acceptable.
  • Manual search: Rosub appears as a provider in Jellyfin's subtitle search.
  • Respects the quota: subs.ro allows 300 requests a day per key; Rosub uses at most the budget you set and keeps a reserve for newly added items.

Requirements

  • Jellyfin Server 12.2 or newer.
  • A free subs.ro API key (My account → API); optionally an OpenSubtitles.com API key.

Frequently asked

How do I get Romanian subtitles automatically in Jellyfin? Install Rosub and enter your subs.ro API key in Dashboard → Rosub. New movies and episodes get a matching Romanian subtitle a few minutes after they are added, and the daily task fills in the rest of the library. See the guide.

Why "exactly matches the release"? A subtitle made for a different release (another group, source or cut) is often out of sync. Rosub chooses the file made for your release and checks the timing before saving it.

Licensing

The plugin is open source (GPL-3.0), like Jellyfin itself. What you buy is the subscription for builds, updates and support for one Jellyfin server: ready-to-install releases through your private plugin repository, every update while the subscription is active, and help when something does not work. The plugin checks the subscription key once a day; without a valid subscription it stops until you renew (nothing is deleted). Monthly, yearly or lifetime (lifetime includes one year of updates), or included in the Jellyfin bundle. 30-day free trial.

Source code. For every release, the complete corresponding source code is downloadable from your account (Account → Licences, Source code) next to the build, under the same rules as the build, and each archive contains the full GPL-3.0 text (LICENSE). If you need the source of a version you can no longer download, ask us and we send it. See section 10 of the EULA.

Requirements

  • Jellyfin Server 12.2 or newer (Linux, Windows or Docker)
  • A free subs.ro API key
  • Open source (GPL-3.0): the source code of each version is in your account
