MediaLab Marketplace for Jellyfin

Marketplace: your covered plugins, with install, update and rollback

Installs, updates and rolls back the MediaLab plugins your license covers, straight from your Jellyfin server.

The Marketplace is the free plugin that turns your license into a catalogue: it asks medialab.works which plugins your key covers, shows the latest version of each with what changed, and installs, updates or rolls back the file after checking its signature. It never offers a plugin your license does not cover.

What it does

  • Your catalogue, signed: the list of plugins your license covers, each with the latest version, size, SHA-256, file signature, changelog and a download link that expires in 30 minutes.
  • Install, update, uninstall, roll back: one button per plugin, from the server; the previous versions are offered for rollback.
  • Verification before install: the SHA-256 and the MediaLab signature are checked before the file is put in place.
  • Nightly updates at 04:00 (optional): the Marketplace updates what is allowed, per plugin and stable versions only; the server restarts only when nobody is watching. If a plugin fails to load after an update, the Marketplace rolls it back by itself.
  • Nothing to buy here: only the plugins your key covers are shown; the rest are on medialab.works.
  • Free: no price, no separate subscription. It uses the license key of your Jellyfin server.

Requirements

  • Jellyfin 12.2 or newer, or medialab Server.
  • A license key that covers at least one MediaLab plugin (the bundle or single licenses).
  • The server must reach medialab.works over HTTPS.
  • First installation (bootstrap): the plugin is a free download — sign in (or create a free account) on medialab.works and use the Download button on its page, then install it once by hand; after that it keeps itself and the other plugins up to date.

What it sends where

  • The license key, the server id and the platform, to medialab.works/api/license/catalog; the answer is signed and lists only the covered plugins.
  • Downloads go from medialab.works to your server over HTTPS; the links expire after 30 minutes.
  • Nothing else leaves the server. See Licensing and privacy in our plugins.

Licensing

The Marketplace is free: no price, no trial and no separate subscription, and it works with any valid license key of the server. It is free software under GPL-3.0; the builds are public and so is the complete source code. The plugin is a free download from medialab.works after you sign in — no purchase needed. See the installation and use guide.

Works best with medialab Server

This plugin works on official Jellyfin 12.2 or newer. On medialab Server, our Jellyfin-based server with the same data, libraries, users and apps, it works better:

  • Verified – medialab. The server checks the signature of our plugins and shows you that the files are exactly the ones we published. A plugin changed after publishing is flagged.
  • Built into the interface. Plugins can add buttons and links to your users' menu (for example "TV", "Share") with no manual web configuration.
  • Priority by default. medialab plugins come first where it matters: Live TV tuners, guide sources and subtitle providers. The order stays yours: you can change it at any time.
  • The medialab.works catalog included, installing without extra confirmations.
  • Updates from the web UI, no terminal (with Self-Update by MediaLab): check, update and roll back from the dashboard; if a new version fails to start, the server rolls back on its own with your data intact.
  • The same Jellyfin, up to date. medialab Server follows the stable Jellyfin 12.x releases every week; a new version is published only after it passes every test, including the tests of our plugins.

Jellyfin apps (Android, iOS, TV, web) connect exactly as they do to official Jellyfin.

To install it, run the container image (guide) or, on Debian 12, the apt packages, which replace jellyfin-server and jellyfin-web and keep your data in place (guide).

medialab Server is free software (GPL-2.0), based on Jellyfin. The source code is public: medialab-server and medialab-server-web.

Requirements

  • Jellyfin 12.2 or newer, or medialab Server
  • A license key that covers at least one MediaLab plugin
  • Free software (GPL-3.0 for the Jellyfin build): the source code is public
