Cashier — paid Emby subscriptions
Cashier turns your Emby server into a paid service. A visitor signs up, picks a plan, pays with Stripe and the Emby account becomes active as soon as the payment is confirmed; when a renewal is not paid, the account is suspended until the invoice is paid. It works together with Registration, which provides the sign-up page and creates the accounts.
What it does
- Plans you define, monthly and yearly, by the number of simultaneous streams (1 to 4 by default), each with its own price, plus an optional free trial for the first subscription. Plans are pushed to your Stripe account as prices; a changed price creates a new one, and existing subscribers keep theirs until they change plan.
- Payments with your own Stripe account: customers pay on Stripe's hosted Checkout page (card, Apple Pay / Google Pay and the methods Stripe offers), so card data never touches your server. Optional promotion codes, billing address and Stripe Tax.
- Payment replaces approval: an account created through Registration stays disabled until Stripe confirms the payment, then it is enabled with the plan's stream limit. Visitors are sent to the plan page right after signing up.
- Non-payment suspends, never deletes: after a failed payment the account stays active for a grace period (3 days by default) while Stripe retries, then it is disabled; paying the invoice enables it again. Deleting long-suspended accounts is optional and off by default.
- Stream limit guard: the plan's limit is set in the Emby user policy, and playback above it is stopped with a message (can be turned off).
- Customer page on your Emby address: plans, the current subscription, the next payment and a Manage subscription button that opens the Stripe customer portal (card, invoices, plan change, cancellation). A suspended account, which cannot sign in, gets a signed payment link valid for 7 days, by e-mail or from you. On a TV, the page shows a QR code so the customer pays from a phone and the TV continues by itself.
- E-mails to subscribers, each with its own switch: reminder before the next invoice, receipt, failed payment, suspension with the payment link, and access restored. They go out through the e-mail server configured in Registration, in the language the customer chose at sign-up.
- Administration in the Emby dashboard, with tabs for Subscribers, Payments, Plans, Stripe, Settings and Log: suspend, reactivate, exempt from paying, copy or e-mail the payment link, or ask an existing account to pay. Administrator accounts are never touched.
- Reliable state: Stripe events are verified by their signature and applied once; Cashier also reads the events from Stripe every 15 minutes, so a missed webhook does not leave an account in the wrong state.
Requirements
- Emby Server 4.10.1 or newer (Linux, Windows or Docker).
- Registration 1.10 or newer, installed and licensed. Cashier uses its sign-up page, its e-mail settings and its accounts; without it, Cashier shows the reason in its page.
- A Stripe account (free to open; Stripe charges its own fee per payment) and the server reachable over HTTPS, for the customer page and the Stripe webhook.
Privacy
Card details are handled only by Stripe. Cashier stores on your server the Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, the plan, the e-mail address and the payment dates of each subscriber. Your Stripe key and webhook secret are kept apart from the plugin settings and are never sent back to the browser.
Frequently asked
Can I charge people for access to my Emby server? Yes: Registration provides the sign-up page and Cashier the subscription. Visitors pick a plan, pay through your Stripe account and their account is enabled right away; an unpaid renewal suspends it. See the guide.
What does a "device" mean in a plan? A simultaneous stream: a plan for 2 devices lets the account play on two screens at the same time.
Without a valid Cashier license, what happens to existing subscribers? Cashier stops: no new paid sign-ups, and it does not change any account. Nothing is deleted; the Stripe events are picked up as soon as the license is valid again.
